Kate Speranza

Kate Speranza is a life-long Oregonian and received her BFA from Oregon College of Art & Craft where she concentrated in metalsmithing. She went on to pursue an MFA at East Carolina University and discovered a love for painting there. Her current studio practice combines a variety of materials and formats. She has shown her paintings, sculpture, and jewelry in many national and regional exhibitions.

Kate has been a member of the Astoria Studio Collective since 2018 and is well known locally for making jewelry that incorporates historic glass from Astoria’s sidewalks. Since moving to Astoria, she has participated in both local and international artist residencies, which have strongly influenced her work. She has an upcoming exhibition in June that is based on her most recent artist residency in Finland.

“My drive to create comes not only from a desire to work with my hands, but also to find a sense of calm within my life. Architecture, clean lines, and minimalism have been pathways towards that feeling. Additionally, I am intrigued by the history imbued within found objects and salvaged materials, which often find a place in my work.”
